Interim Chief Information Security Officer

Interim Chief Information Security Officer

The Client

This Silverstripe-backed portfolio company is a rapidly scaling payments middleware provider that enables access to all major payment processing types and third-party integrations through a single API. Since its founding in January 2015, the business has emerged as a go-to platform for merchants and organisations seeking a robust, flexible, and cost-efficient payments infrastructure.

The company empowers both commercial enterprises and not-for-profits to reach their full transactional potential—regardless of location or payment method. Its unique architecture supports ‘many-in’ and ‘many-out’ configurations, streamlining complexity and enabling sustainable revenue growth.

The Brief

In support of continued growth and to strengthen their security posture, the company engaged Zeren to appoint an Interim Chief Information Security Officer. The objective was to provide immediate expertise to assess existing security infrastructure, identify and address gaps, and ensure compliance with key industry standards such as PCI-DSS and ISO 27001.

This leadership role was critical to bolstering internal capabilities and ensuring the business met the stringent security requirements demanded by enterprise clients and partners.

The Solution

As with all interim assignments, Renoir leveraged a multi-channel sourcing strategy. We began with our established network of senior technology professionals with relevant domain experience and a deep understanding of the payments and fintech landscape. Concurrently, we mapped the market to identify individuals from similarly scaled and staged businesses across Europe.

We focused our outreach on a select group of highly experienced, immediately available candidates, each vetted for capability and cultural fit. From this long list, we shortlisted and interviewed top prospects and presented the final candidate for a first-stage discussion with its founder.

Following a strong initial interview, the process advanced rapidly with a second-stage interview conducted by its Co-Founder within the same week. From brief to offer, the entire process was completed in under seven days, with the selected Interim CISO – who brought prior experience from Revolut – joining the business within two weeks.

The Outcome

Sonet Mudiliyar (Talent Coordinator) shared the following feedback on the process:

“Renoir were hired to support us with an Interim C-level position. These types of roles usually take a while to find the right fit for both the company and the candidate. Renoir provided us with an excellent candidate and worked with us every step of the way. I highly recommend their services.”

The successful appointment not only filled a critical leadership gap quickly but also ensured that the company was equipped to advance its security capabilities in line with its commercial and regulatory obligations, positioning it for continued success under Silverstripe’s backing.
